Requirements

Meeting HOT Requirements

Intervention specialists must meet HOT requirements by the end of school year 2005-2006, as mandated in the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA), through each of the following ways:

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Hold at least a bachelor's degree;

  2. Hold full state certification or licensure as an intervention specialist; AND

  3. Demonstrate subject matter competence in each area taught for seventh- through 12th-grade intervention specialists.

K-& Intervention Specialist Requirements

K-6 intervention specialists need to use Form A to document HQT status.

7-12 Intervention Specialist Requirements

7-12 intervention specialists need to use Form D to document HQT status.

Note:

  • 7-12 intervention specialists who teach only students who participate in standards-based alternate assessments, AND whose curriculum is at or below a sixth-grade level, need to use Form A to document HOT status.

  • 7-12 intervention specialists who teach only students who participate in standards-based alternate assessments, AND whose curriculum is above the sixth-grade level must demonstrate subject matter competence and need to use Form D to document HQT status.
