Content Knowledge: Content Area Reading Course

Content Area Reading Course  focuses  upon reading to learn across the curriculum.  This course provides Grades K-12 teachers with a scientifically based reading research (SBRR) foundation for understanding issues surrounding literacy. Multiple strategies to support students’ reading and development across the academic curriculum will be modeled and practiced. Participants will have opportunities to engage in collaborative problem-solving discussions, presentations and to examine their own student data in order to determine students’ reading and learning needs.  CMSD programs which support reading will also be explored.   Participants are required to  bring in evidence of implementation via samples of student work to each class and develop a lesson and use that lesson with their students.
