The
modern civil rights movement is a story of extraordinary people -- young
and old, black and white, famous and unknown, Northern and Southern --
whose beliefs in freedom and equality led them to risk everything,
including their very lives, to fight racism. Nonviolent marches,
boycotts, student-led sit-ins and freedom rides were met with cursing,
clenched fists, baseball bats, billy clubs, attack dogs and powerful
water hoses. Yet, despite the insults and physical harm, these
"foot soldiers" had the courage, determination and strength to seek
"liberty and justice for all." |
