Parental Involvement
Parents are their children's best advocates. A parent's willingness to contact teachers on a regular basis about their
child's progress is perhaps the first step to becoming involved in
their child's education. Armed with good information about a child's
performance, parents can proceed in both direct and indirect ways to
influence the child's progress. When schools work together with families
to support learning, children are inclined to succeed not just in school,
but throughout life. Parents can become directly involved in their child's
education by actively participating in the School Parent
Organization (SPO) and by following these tips:
-
Read
together
-
Establish a time and place for homework
-
Monitor television times
-
Communicate positive behaviors, values and traits
-
Expect achievement and offer praise
-
Meet your child(ren's) teacher
-
Volunteer in your child(ren's) classroom and /or school
-
Teach respect
-
Say at least one positive thing to your child each day
