"It Takes a Village to Raise a Child".. To Raise A Child, " is a popular African Proverb. Our goal is to provide high level, quality services and programs to parents and caregivers of children within our school district. The challenge for the Division of  Family and Community Engagement is to remain focused on providing the opportunities for parents and their communities to build and support new and existing organizations, programs, activities and resources that will increase their capacity as literate lifelong learning communities.

We offer two Parent Resource Centers. These centers are located at Artemus Ward and Audubon Schools. The Parent Resource Center will house the Adult Literacy Centers using the LightSpan Achieve Now Program. LightSpan is an interactive learning initiative, which uses educational CD-ROM software in math, science and literacy powered by Sony Play Station. LightSpan is being used in over fifty elementary schools within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

In keeping with the focus of engaging parents in their child's educational development, we have the support of teachers, staff, civic and community organizations and alternative learning institutions to assist us in developing meaningful programs. We believe the one sure way of helping a child become a better student is by helping our parents, family members and community members to become better informed partners.

"The primary goal of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District is to become a premier school district in the United States of America." - Eugene T.W. Sanders, Ph.D, Chief Executive Officer.
