Student Transportation

Who qualifies for transportation?
Qualifications for free bus tickets: K-8 students living 1 mile or more from school; high school students living three or more miles from school.
Transportation is not provided to regular education preschoolers, as it is not allowed by state law.  Only special needs preschoolers may be bussed on yellow buses.  
Safe Walking Routes will be uploaded to the Safety and Security Department webpage once they are finalized.

Uniforms

Students K-12 are expected to adhere to the uniform dress code. Pre-K students are not held to the uniform dress code, but are encouraged to comply. To learn more about the uniform policy, and limited uniform assistance call 216.436.5369.  School Uniforms/Dress Code

Special Education

All enrollments and withdrawals for students with disabilities are processed at the Division of Special Education, located at 1440 Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland, 44114.  Transportation is only provided when specified on the student’s current Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Interscholastic Athletics

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Interscholastic Athletics Office is seeking prospective student athletes in grades 9-12 to tryout for the following sports: football, volleyball, soccer, golf, tennis and cross-country.

  • Any student who intends to participate in interscholastic athletics must have an up-to-date physical examination, have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and receive all passing marks on their final 2011-2012 school year end report card.
  • Sign-up for high school football begins Friday, July 27, 2012; while the official start of the season for volleyball, soccer, golf, tennis and cross-country is Monday August 6, 2012.  Interested student athletes should contact their high school’s Interscholastic Athletes Department for specific tryout dates and times.

Notice to Limited English Proficiency ("LEP") Parents

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District has free language assistance available for Limited English Proficiency (“LEP”) Parents with respect to school programs and activities.  To be eligible for assistance, a parent does not have to be of limited English proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and comprehending English in order to be considered LEP, but, rather, that it is only necessary that a parent be limited in at least one of these areas in order to be eligible to receive language assistance as needed.  The Cleveland Metropolitan School District will accept a parent’s assertion that he or she needs language assistance without requiring additional corroboration.

Family Connection keeps you connected

This year, CMSD high schools will be using web-based software known as Family Connection to help you and your child navigate high school courses, colleges and career plans. School counselors, principals and staff will be providing you with up-to-date information specific to your child’s high school.
Family Connection allows you and your child to get involved in the planning and advising process, to research colleges and career options, and to prepare for the future.
Family Connection also enables us to share information with you about upcoming meetings and events, local scholarship opportunities and other resources for college and career information.
At the beginning of the school year, we will provide detailed information on how to log in and use Family Connection to keep you and your family connected to CMSD.
