The Common Core Standards
School leaders in the nation's big city schools know that maintaining high expectations for children in our schools is crucial for preparing students for college and careers, but it has not been enough-teachers and students today need educational materials that reflect the rigor and quality we need to help students meet expectations.
The "Common Core" State Standards Initiatives is an evidence-based, state-led effort developed in collaboration with state leaders, teachers, school administrators and experts to create a national framework for the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers, so they will graduate ready to succeed in college and in workforce training programs. Our Common Core Standards are informed by other top-performing countries, so students are prepared to succeed in our global economy.
