The Friends of the Cleveland School
of the Arts is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1984 with
a grant from the Junior League of Greater Cleveland. The Friends
is governed by a 45 member Board of Trustees comprised of parents, teachers,
members of University Circle institutions, members of Cleveland's corporate,
philanthropic, and volunteer community, and the school's principal.
The mission of The Friends is to offer funding and educational opportunities beyonf those included in the Cleveland Metropolitan School Board's budget. These opportunities enhance learning for Cleveland School of the Arts students. The support of The Friends represents money that is entirely separate from the Cleveland Municipal School District.
Funds raised by The Friends have been used to provide full and part-time Artists-in-Residence, fund artistic exhibitions and productions and to purchase library books and computers. Funds are also maintain and repair Visual and Performing Arts equipment. Additionally, The Friends have also provided summer scholarship opportunities and private msuic lessons to students.
