THE MISSION

The Interscholastic Athletics and Student Activities’ programs support the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s overall goal of becoming a premier school district in the United States of America.  Extracurricular activities and academics go hand-in-hand as we require students, staff and parents to address the following standards in order to participate in these programs:

  • High standards/rigorous curriculum – The Cleveland Board of Education adopted guidelines for student athletic and extracurricular eligibility during the 1999 - 2000 school year.  The guidelines indicate that students in Interscholastic Athletics and extracurricular activities, including band, music, drama, and dance, must achieve a 2.00 GPA, and no “F’s” in each semester.

  • Promote extracurricular activities for students – specifically through increasing the number of students participating in extracurricular activities, by creating a variety of city-wide artistic groups and by expanding the variety of offerings available to students.

  • Student participation will be linked to student achievement – in an effort to confirm the effects of student involvement on student academic performance.

The Extracurricular Activities Program is a vital part of the student educational experience.  The program provides opportunities for the development of student interests and talents. It also provides a basis for personal values and a lifetime of work and leisure activities.
