HISTORY
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Office of Adult and
Continuing Education have a renowned reputation for providing
skilled and academic training programs and a strong philosophy of
promoting life-long learning. Adult Education has the
longest history of adult education programs in Cuyahoga County.
Except for a brief period during the Civil War, education programs
for adults have been operating consistently since 1850. Job
training programs have been offered for over 38 years.
We enroll students from ages 16 1/2 and older. We
offer classes of instruction throughout Northeastern Ohio
primarily within Cuyahoga County at over 20 locations.
The department offers a variety of financial aid options to assist
students with payment of classes. All ABLE/ESOL and family
literacy classes are free to the general public.
The Office of Adult and Continuing Education offers classes in
GED preparation, basic skills enhancement, English as a second
language, family literacy, and career and technical vocational job
training. Customized classes for incumbent workers are

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The Cleveland ABLE Program needs qualified adult
volunteers to support classroom instruction. Daytime and evening
volunteer opportunities are available for the following classes:
- basic skills
- GED preparation
- English for Speakers of Other Languages
- family literacy
