Career Development training provides adults with the technical career skills needed to enter employment.


CARPENTRY

This course prepares students for entry-level positions in the building trades field. The extended scope of this course gives the student some degree of independence and flexibility on the job as a Building Trades Apprentice. The course provides the student with basic skills in rough carpentry, plumbing, electrical and the finishing areas.

This course prepares students for entry-level positions in the electrical trade industry. The course will provide the student with basic knowledge of electrical systems as it relates to residential, commercial and industrial electricity.

MACHINING TECHNOLOGY

This course prepares students for entry-level positions in the machining industry. The course provides students with basic set-up and operation skills on conventional lathes, vertical mills, drill presses, power saws and grinders. Proper use and handling of cutting tools, blueprint reading, Computer Numeric Control (CNC) programming and modern automated manufacturing processes will be integrated throughout the course.

WELDING TECHNOLOGY

This course prepares students for entry-level employment in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (S.M.A.W.), Oxy Fuel Welding and Cutting, Gas Metal Arc Welding (G.M.A.W.), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (G.T.A.W.). The extended scope and depth of this course gives the student a wide range of welding skills and some degree of independence and flexibility on the job as a Welder.

This course prepares students for entry-level employment in an administrative or clerical position where word processing and data entry skills are needed. Students are taught utilizing certified Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) curriculums in preparation for certification in each program. Both IC3 and MOS certifications are recognized worldwide as an industry standard.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT [C.D.A.]

This course prepares students for the Child Development Associate (C.D.A.) credential. The C.D.A. credential is awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C. The credential is recognized in all 50 United States. The C.D.A. prepares an individual for employment, working with young children in a variety of early childcare settings.

Students complete educational clock hours required for the CDA credential application. The following topics are covered:

  • Establishing a safe and healthy environment
  • Advancing physical and intellectual competence
  • Supporting social and emotional development
  • Establishing productive relationships with families
  • Effective program operation
  • Maintaining a commitment to professionalism
  • Observing and recording children’s behavior
  • Principles and theories of child development

Students complete 480 hours of work experience in a licensed child care center. Students regularly meet with the instructor to complete documentation required for the CDA credential application, which includes:

  • Completion of a Resource File: An Autobiography Competency Goal Statement Resource Collection
  • Parent Questionnaires
  • Formal Observation

C.D.A. REQUIREMENTS: A clean criminal background check and a high school diploma or GED are needed before beginning Part II of the program and are required for the C.D.A. credential.

STATE TESTED NURSE ASSISTANT TRAINING (STNA)

This program prepares students for entry-level positions in the Health Care industry. Students are given an opportunity to gain hands-on experience while pursuing advanced degrees in health care. The field is also open to and suitable for mature adults seeking career changes and additional career opportunities.
