OLD STONE CENTER FOR EDUCATION PARENTING AND FAMILY LITERACY EDUCATION PROGRAM

The Old Stone Center for Education offers an alternative educational environment for young parents, who are between the ages of 16 1/2 to 22, who have not experienced success in the traditional school setting.

The center provides General Educational Development (GED) preparation classes, independent study and high school credit classes (for students who need less than three credits to graduate), college and career counseling, and parenting and literacy classes.

Old Stone Center for Education students may participate in the Shadowing, Internship, and Mentoring Services (SIMS) program, which provides students with the opportunity to learn about various occupations and interact with adults in the work setting. Activities include visiting a work site or completing an internship at a company that offers careers of interest. Students receive a stipend during the internship. Internships often lead to full or part-time employment.

For students enrolled in Old Stone Center for Education programs, on-site, state licensed childcare for children (six-months to five years of age) is available. County vouchers are required. Please call The Old Stone Center for Education at (216) 241-3734 for enrollment information.

Anyone interested in enrolling in an ABLE/GED class, family literacy class is required to complete an Intake/Orientation session offered  throughout the year. These sessions include initial assessment of basic skills, identification of realistic/achievable goals, along with other activities that support maximum student success in the program.
