Dear
Parent/Guardian:
On January 29,
2008, the Division of Safety and Security for the Cleveland Metropolitan
School District, in cooperation with the Cleveland Police Department,
responded to Robert Fulton K-8 at 3921 East 140th Street, and
placed three students accused of creating a disturbance in a classroom into
custody. The incident resulted in a minor injury to a member of the
teaching staff.
In addition,
14 other students from the same classroom were released to the custody of
their parents for their alleged involvement in this incident. The matter
remains under investigation, and based on their level of participation, the
students face suspension and possibly expulsion for their involvement. |
There have
been reports that the students in question were engaged in a “fight.”
That is not true; however, the disruption is cause for concern for the
District. Violent behavior will not be tolerated.
Furthermore, it has been reported that a large fight occurred on the
same day involving students at the corner of East 30th Street and Euclid
Avenue, leaving the impression that this brawl involved students from
the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Let me assure you, this
second incident did not involve students from the Cleveland Metropolitan
School District.
The
purpose of my letter is to also inform parents that any student who
violates the policies adopted in the
CMSD Student Code of Conduct will
be subject to disciplinary action. Moreover, if a student violates any
law or ordinance, he or she will be referred to juvenile authorities for
criminal prosecution.
We are
asking parents and guardians to speak to their children about adverse
behavior. School is a place for learning. The district will take the
necessary steps to ensure that employees and students are safe while
they are engaged in the educational process.
Sincerely,

Eugene T.
W. Sanders, Ph.D.
