Achievement Center for Children
The Achievement Center (formerly the Society
for Crippled Children) has an east and west side facility. Preschool
handicapped classes are operated in each center with non-handicapped peers
for mainstreaming purposes. In cooperation with The Achievement Center the
ESC operates a full day program for preschoolers with autism at the east
and west side facilities.
Berea Children's Home Alternative High
School. The county provides the
educational component of the Alternative High School Program located in
Cleveland, and serves all district in Cuyahoga
County. The school offers at-risk and severe behavior handicapped classes.
Brooklyn. The Brooklyn City Schools'
preschool handicapped program is
operated by the ESC by contract.
Eleanor Gerson Alternative High School.
Gerson is an alternative high school located in downtown Cleveland. It is
operated by the Applewood Centers, Inc. The school offers regular
education and severe behavior handicapped classes
Help Me Grow. A regional group
serving children from birth to age three. Its programs iinclude: Early
Start, Welcome Home, Early Intervention, Parent Partners and Ready to REad.
Staff members are employed to provide services in these areas. Funding is
from the state and Cuyahoga County.

Parmadale. The ESC is providing
educational services for the residents. Both multi-handicapped and severe
behavior handicapped programs are located at this site.
Positive Education Program. (PEP) is
an intensive program for severe behavior handicapped children from
preschool age through high school. Two "Early Intervention Centers" are
operated for preschool children and their parents, and six "Day Treatment
Centers" for school age children are located throughout the County. In
addition, two group homes are provided. Approximately 400 staff are
employed for this program.
Positive Learning for Unlimited Success
(PLUS). This is an elementary through middle school Severe Behavior
Handicapped program for Eastern Cuyahoga County School School Districts
that is housed in Richmond Heights.
