MAYOR JACKSON 2012 SCHOLARSHIPS

Mayor Jackson 2012 Scholarship Program Information 

The Mayor Frank G. Jackson Scholarship Program has been established to support City of Cleveland employees, their children and Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) students interested in pursuing a full-time college education beginning fall semester, August 2012.  (English | Spanish)

City of Cleveland employees and their children will be offered an opportunity to apply for one of the following scholarships:

  • Five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to children of City of Cleveland employees who are graduating seniors entering into their first year of enrollment at a post-secondary institution (four-year college/university).
  • Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to children of City of Cleveland employees who are currently enrolled at a four-year college.
  • Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to City of Cleveland employees earning a bachelors degree (full or part-time).
  • Twenty-two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors from City of Cleveland Recreation Centers.

Cleveland Metropolitan School District students will be offered an opportunity to apply for one of the following scholarships:

  • Ten $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to CMSD graduating seniors entering into their first year of enrollment at a post-secondary institution (four-year college/university).
  • One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be attending a Historically Black College or University.

Mayor Jackson Scholarships for CMSD Students

Mayor Jackson Scholarships for CMSD Students offer students an opportunity to apply for one of the following scholarships: (English | Spanish)

  • Ten $2,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors, currently attending a Cleveland Metropolitan District High School, who will enter into their first year of full-time enrollment at a post-secondary institution (four-year college or university).
  • One $2,000.00 scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be attending a Historically Black College or University.
  • Twenty-one $2,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors from the City of Cleveland Recreation Centers who will attend a four year college or university.

Mayor Jackson Scholarships for City Employees 

City of Cleveland employees and their children will be offered an opportunity to apply for one of the following scholarships beginning fall semester, August 2012: (English | Spanish)

  • Five children of City of Cleveland employees who are graduating seniors entering into their first year of enrollment at a post-secondary institution (four-year college or university) will be awarded $2,000.00 each.
  • Five children of City of Cleveland employees who are currently enrolled at a four-year college or university will receive $1,000.00 each.
  • Five City of Cleveland employees earning a bachelors degree (going to school full or part-time) will receive $1,000.00 each.
  • Twenty-two $2,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors from the City of Cleveland Recreation Centers.

Frank Jackson-Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs Scholarship Program

Frank Jackson-Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs Scholarship for Students offer students an opportunity to apply for the following scholarship beginning fall semester, August 2012: (English | Spanish

One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior or undergraduate majoring in urban studies, urban planning or public administration, and attending the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.  The candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Student is a graduating senior attending a CMSD high school or child of a City of Cleveland employee who is a high school senior or undergraduate student. 
  • Student is or will be majoring in urban studies, urban planning or public administration at Cleveland State University
  • Student must be enrolled full-time
  • Student has earned a minimum grade point average of 2.5
  • Student must complete an essay (details on application)

Requirements for the above scholarships:

Applicants must apply on line at http://www.uncf.org/. Certified transcripts and two letters of recommendation must be uploaded with the application. Additional requirements for these scholarships can be found when applying on the UNCF website.

The deadline for applications is Friday, April 6, 2012. All applicants will be notified of scholarship award decisions by Tuesday, May 1, 2012. For more information, contact Monyka S. Price, Chief of Education at 216.420.8087.

The Esperanza Scholarship 2012-2013

Open enrollment is from January to March. 

Esperanza partners with CMSD to offer a Youth Leadership Club at Lincoln-West, Thomas Jefferson and Esperanza.  In addition, Esperanza partners with the F.A.C.E. department to offer parents a Parent Leadership Training on Monday’s at Lincoln West from January to March: 5:30 pm to 7 pm.

The Esperanza Scholarship

The Esperanza Scholarship Program awards college scholarships annually to eligible Hispanic students who reside in Cuyahoga or Lorain counties. Since 1994, Esperanza has awarded over 800 scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant MUST:
1. Students must be residents of Cuyahoga or Lorain Counties in Ohio, USA.
2. Students must be graduating high school or be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate college or university.
3. Student must have a Student Aid Report (SRA) that proves FAFSA was filed.
4. Students must have achieved a minimum high school grade-point average of 2.50 (based on 4.0 scale) at the time of application.
5. High school students earn extra points if they have participated in extracurricular activities and school or community service.
6. Students must take either the SAT or ACT before applying.
7. Students must complete and fulfill the requirements listed in the application.
8. Applicants will be evaluated based on their academic achievements, quality of personal statements, recommendation letters, individual interviews, and family income.

CMSD wants all of its students to explore attending college as an option following high school. A number of organizations offer scholarships to assist with the cost of college. StudentScholarships.org has updated its list of available scholarships for February 2012. All of the scholarships attached are available to CMSD students.
