Normandy: 1944

A superb website sponsored by Encyclopaedia Britannica. It deals with the build-up, invasion and aftermath of the Normandy beach landings from the perspective of all sides involved in the battle, but mostly the Americans. There are photos, documentaries, radio clips and personal accounts to flesh out the history, and the whole is beautifully presented. There are also activities in the Study Guide to help students focus their research, with a full set of notes for teachers. Inspired teachers can couple this site with the film Saving Private Ryan for an incredible WWII unit. A real gem. http://normandy.eb.com/

The American Experience

American Experience Online has produced over 35 web sites all accessible from here and all concerning American History. It is designed to accompany the PBS series of the same name and contains a teacher's guide for classroom teachers who want to use this site in their class.

National Archives & Records Administration

NARA is an independent Federal agency that helps preserve our nation's history by overseeing the management of all Federal records.
