High School Transition Program

The High School Transition program, funded in part by the United Way's Vision Council, supports all 8th and 9th graders in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Students participating in the program will gain a solid understanding of school choices and career pathways, and will strengthen their skills in effective listening, note taking and communication with peers and adults. 8th Grade

Students will be provided the tools to effectively navigate into high school through the following focus areas: Effective Studying, Problem Solving and Communication. This program will be implemented by 8th Grade Social Studies teachers thru a 4-part series of lesson plans:

Lesson One: Skills & Strategies for Study Success

Lesson Two: Communication Tools

Lesson Three: Reflection & Use of Effective Communication

Lesson Four: Transition to High School - 9th Grade Expectations

 

9th Grade

Students will be equipped with a solid understanding of choices and experiences to be successful in High School, as well as postsecondary career and educational pathways. Focus areas include: High School expectations and standards, Individual Academic and Career Portfolios and Community Resources. This program will be implemented by 9th Grade Guidance Counselors thru a 3-part series of lesson plans:

Lesson One: Prepare for Take-off:
High School & the journey to anticipate

Lesson Two: Plotting the Course-Choosing a career pathway

Lesson Three: Enroute to the Future-Graduation and choices for beyond

Community Support and Investment

External partners will provide a framework that will meet the goals and needs of the program and their supporting agencies by helping students acquire the skills necessary to successfully navigate life transitions: Middle School to High School (8th to 9th grade), High School to postsecondary education and/or a career, and self-sufficiency.
