Career and Technical Education

The goal of Career and Technical Education is to develop competent, skilled citizens prepared to compete and succeed in today's workplace.

 

Environmental & Agricultural

Students are introduced to a wide range of occupations such as greenhouse production, heavy landscape mechanics, small animal care management, and the art and business of floral design. Washington Park Horticultural Center, located on 5.7 acres of land just four miles from Public Square, is the setting for the Environmental and Agricultural program that includes a large greenhouse, arboretum, animal care complex and equipment training facilities.

Business/Marketing Technology Education

Students learn basic accounting, management, and administrative business practices, as well as word processing and spreadsheet computer software. These skills can be used in all aspects of business and industry. A broad range of careers from database management and desktop publishing to market research and software support make Business/Marketing programs highly relevant now and in the future.

Family and Consumer Sciences

Students learn how to function as productive family members, workers, and citizens in a complex, global society. The program prepares students for the work of the family and teaches them how to balance work and family life by using practical problems as a framework for course content. Students develop a high level of competence in problem solving, interpersonal skills, citizenship and leadership. The program offers a wide range of elective courses including culinary arts and teaching professions.

Trade, Industry, and Health Occupations

Trade and Industrial Education programs provide students with skills in producing and transporting goods and services. Elective course offerings include: precision machining, automotive, construction trades, software development, public safety, computer drafting/engineering/PLTW, visual communications, cosmetology, web design and computer networking. Health Occupations Education programs prepare students to assist professionals in providing diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, restorative, and rehabilitative services to patients in today's dental and medical fields.

ROTC/Military

Program introduces the concepts of citizenship, leadership, military justice and international law. Elective courses provide understanding of military power, national security and military history. Click here for more information.
