Mayor Frank Jackson's tentative timetable for picking a new schools chief:

  • Select interim CEO by mid-January.
  • Name a 25- to 30-member committee for input on type of long-term leader needed.
  • Hire search firm.
  • Schedule two meetings, in late January or early February, at which public may comment.Appoint smaller committee to screen applicants and recommend two or three finalists by late May or early June.
  • Board will hire in consultation with the mayor.Jackson will solicit suggestions on appointment of committee members and interim CEO.
