1/25/2012 2:00:00 PMTarget Grants $5 Million to More Than 50 Schools across the Country

A quality education is the foundation for a brighter future. But amidst the education challenges in America today, not all children are guaranteed one.

For K-12 students, an excellent education means having access to essential resources and a healthy, happy learning environment. For Target, that means helping kids receive those much-needed resources and creating inspiring classrooms.

From Nov. 25, 2011, through Jan. 4, 2012, viewers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show submitted heartfelt stories about schools that needed help from Target. And today, Target announced the names of those lucky schools!

Based on the nominations received, Target selected 48 schools and two school districts in 31 states to receive $100,000 grants.

“We all have an important role to play when it comes to ensuring our children and future leaders are academically successful,” said Laysha Ward, president, community relations, Target.

“Thanks to the thousands of viewers who nominated a school, we are contributing a total of $5 million to schools and districts across the country in hopes of inspiring learning and putting more kids on the path to graduation, ready for college, a career and life,” said Laysha.

The path to graduation and higher learning may be filled with obstacles, but Target is helping clear that road, making way for eager learners.  << See full story
