Cleveland anticipates $28-30 million in federal dollars over the next four years

Preliminary data indicates CMSD earns Continuous Improvement
Although budget restraints have rendered the Cleveland Metropolitan School District unable to provide school uniform vouchers for students this year, District officials say economically disadvantaged students will be able to purchase uniforms at low or discounted prices and parents without the means to purchase uniforms will be provided uniform assistance by their schools.
District Focused on Transformation, School Opening
Although budget restraints have rendered the Cleveland Metropolitan School District unable to continue providing school uniform vouchers this year, District officials say they will continue to abide by state law and a school policy that requires the district to assist parents of economically disadvantaged students with obtaining school uniforms.
Today, Cleveland Schools CEO Dr. Eugene Sanders announced in greater detail the goals and process of central office redesign. The overarching purpose of the Academic Transformation Plan is to improve educational programs, options and climate in our schools so that our students experience success. As a key component of the ATP, the central office redesign is critical to our efforts to attract, support and retain qualified employees across the District.

Today, Kaiser Permanente announced its award of a $500,000 grant to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Students of Promise program. Formerly Governor Strickland’s Closing the Achievement Gap program, the Students of Promise program is dedicated to providing guidance and available resources to 9th grade male students, helping them develop expectations of self and raise their educational standards.

The students of Martin Luther King Jr. Career Campus welcome prestigious Morehouse College President, Dr. Robert M. Franklin to their school. Dr. Franklin will address a group of 9th grade males that are a part of the Governor’s Initiative for Closing the Achievement Gap. Franklin’s comments will focus on the importance of African American males embracing and pursuing education on all levels and the legacy of Morehouse College.
